Igniting Leadership Blog by Maria Catt

LV's Igniting Leadership Program is a concentrated learning experience that is designed to foster a new generation of leaders. Here Maria Catt, a participant in ILP for June-July 2012, reflects on day four of the program:
Day four of the Igniting Leadership program and again another interesting and inspiring session, this time on strategy and systems.
The presenters are great and have brought a wealth of experience and knowledge in their fields. As the program slowly comes to an end, I start to realise that there is no particular formula for becoming a good leader.
Every person has their own experiences, crucibles, values and qualities that would make them a good leader. This is evident of the people in this course.
What else have I learnt? It's not only about what makes a good leader, but also about being aware of the people that work for you. One piece of advise that James Garriock gave in his presentation was, to be a good leader you need to be what others need you to be. This I find to be true.
The program has also provided many tools and information to use during my journey. Who knows, this may be one of my crucible-moments in life.
