Lisa Lahey Driving Change

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past of present are certain to miss the future” - John F. Kennedy

Actioning such a complex issue as change has a proven history of not being easy. However, last week has seen our thinking challenged and inspired by Dr. Lisa Lahey and her ‘Immunity to Change’ series.

Gender equality in leadership and the Aged Care sector in Australia were core topics of insightful discussion and debate as well as broader issues regarding individual reflection and fundamental change discourse and methodology. Last Monday night an esteemed panel of experts, Dr Lisa Lahey, Nick Green and Andrea Durrant shared their personal and professional observations about change.

We learnt that change is everyone’s responsibility and criticism of others only sets the process back. Individuals must not fear stepping out of their comfort zone to achieve great things and a constant, open dialogue about change needs to be withstanding across businesses and the greater society.

Rather than criticising others for their lack of motivation, let’s ask ourselves how each of us as individuals can create a climate that supports change. We need to remove emotion from self assessment and as Nick Green OAM told our panel audience, we need to “Be selfish in a positive way”.

However, simply talking about change will not inspire change and the more people that step up to action positive change the better. They are our future leaders.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been  waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” - Barrack Obama
