Reflection - Igniting Leadership Program: Focus on Food
23 April 2012 By Anna Thomson
I walked away from Leadership Victoria’s Igniting Leadership Program: Focus on Food feeling truly inspired. I must admit, I was a little cautious as I made my way to the program on day one: What will the guests speakers be like? What will the other participants be like? What on earth am I doing here?! However, these little doubts were instantly quashed when I arrived and learned that whilst we all came from different walks of life, we were essentially a group who were looking for the same thing – inspiration.
What I loved most about the course was the honesty of the participants and the guest speakers. No big egos, just openness and a genuine desire to offer wisdom through real-life experiences. We connected with each other through discussions and group activities that pushed us out of our comfort zones (in a good way!) and encouraged creativity.
Whilst I’m not about to change the world, Focus on Food left me genuinely wanting to make a more positive impact in both my personal and professional life through what I have learned about myself and the people around me.
Throughout March LV and Foodbank Victoria teamed up to rouse emerging leaders in the food industry and the community sector, running a five-day program titled: ‘Igniting Leadership Program: Focus on Food’. The program included topics covered in LV’s established ‘Igniting Leadership’ program as well as subject areas specifically relevant to the food industry.
Anna Thomson from Aussie Farmers Direct took the time to reflect on her experience at the Program.
