About the Disability Leadership Program

1.    When will the Disability Leadership Program be held?

The first program options will start in October 2017. All program options, except for the Williamson Community Leadership Program, will finish by the end of June 2018.

Please check the Leadership Victoria website for dates and times for each program option.

2.    Where will the Disability Leadership program be held?

All program options will be held in Melbourne, except for Williamson and Women's Leadership program.

Williamson includes various locations in Melbourne, regional Victoria, as well as a trip to Canberra.  Most travel is arranged via car pools, buses or flights.

Women's Leadership program is held at Chateau Yering in the Yarra Valley.

 3.    Is there a program fee?

The Disability Leadership Program is being provided at no cost to you.*

 (*please note that the Williamson Disability Scholarship has a small fee).

4.    Will access support be provided?

Yes access support to enable your full participation is available, including Auslan interpreters. You should indicate what support you would need on your application form.

5.    Do I have to choose five (5) program options?

No.  The minimum number of program options you can choose is one (1).  The maximum number of program options you can choose is five (5). 

We recommend choosing up to 5 program options in case you are not successful in some of your options are not available.

Applying for the Disability Leadership Program

1.    Am I eligible to apply for the Disability Leadership Program?

The Disability Leadership Program is for people with disability.  You can apply if you:

  • Have a disability
  • Are over the age of 18
  • Can commit to attending all the program sessions
  • Can commit to doing all the program requirements
  • Live in Victoria now
  • Will be living in Australia for at least the next 5 years

2.    Do I need a qualification to apply for the Disability Leadership Program?

No, you do not need to have a qualification.

3.    Do I need to be working to apply for the Disability Leadership Program?

No, you do not need to be working or in paid employment.

4.    What leadership experience do I need to apply for the Disability Leadership Program?

The program is for people with disability at all levels of leadership:

  • Getting Started: I like to take the lead with other people to get things done. People say that I would be a good leader. I would like to learn more about being a leader.
  • Experienced: I have experience in leading other people in the community, or in my daily activities or at work. I want to build more skills as a leader. 
  • Established: I have a lot of leadership experience in the community or at work. I have many achievements as a leader. I want to challenge myself and develop my leadership even further.

5.    Can I send my application in by email?

Yes, if you are unable to complete your application online, you can submit it by email to info@leadershipvictoria.org 

6.    Can I complete my application in hard copy?

Yes, if you are unable to complete your application online, you can complete it in hard copy and send by post to Leadership Victoria, Level 2, Old Treasury Building, Spring Street, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000.

7.    What should be included in the letter of support?

The letter of support should support your suitability to participate in the Disability Leadership Program.   The letter of support can be from a professional or community leader.

8.    Is there an interview process?

If you have selected the Williamson Community Leadership Program or the Women’s Leadership Program, you may be asked to attend an interview with a selection panel.

For all other program options you will not be required to attend an interview.  Instead an independent panel including people with disability will assess applications.  

9.    Will everyone who applies for the Disability Leadership Program be accepted?

Applicants will be selected based on their suitability for the program and the number of places available. Some people who apply may not receive a place in the program.

10.  How will I know if I receive a place in the program?

We will contact all applicants and let them know whether or not they have received a place in the program.

11.  Can I get feedback if my application is not successful?

Yes, you can contact us for feedback about your application.
